Voyage data recorders (VDRs) have been mandatory devices since 2002. Through a series of developments, these simple data collectors and storage devices have been transformed into smart data providers with additional tracking and monitoring features.
Today, Carnival Corporation's AIDA Cruise Ships, outfitted with MacGregor VDRs, collect and contribute bathymetric data to the IHO Data Center for Digital Bathymetry - a first for both the cruise ship industry and VDR manufacturers.
